Italy, Day One

Tried to see a movie for Françios’ birthday, so I had to pack in 15 minutes. The guy ended up sleeping through the movie, so he didn’t even make it. Martin and I grabbed a few pints at Number 2 Bakers Street in Stirling before I met Annelise at the train station. After a normal trip to Glasgow, we climbed aboard the train to the airport. Wow, were people drunk. I fended off the advances of four 35-40 year olds, while Annelise found herself surrounded by a slew of dudes. It was hilarious.

We had a 6:20 am flight out of Prestwick Airport. The only way we could get there was to leave Stirling at 10:30 and spend the night in the airport. Christine was smart enough to book a flight out of Edinburgh at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. I don’t know what happened there, but Christine won that battle.

Annelise got to sleep at the airport quickly, but I was unable to sleep very much. I maybe got one hour of awful sleep. The flight was the same way, not much sleep.

Once we landed we waited around the airport for the offices to open. Once we figured out how to head to the Leaning Tower of Pisa we were off. The tower is one of the seven wonders of the world and the whole area was great.

One of the buildings was just a large dome that both Annelise and I agreed was pretty lame. We were about to head out when it sounded like a choir was singing below us. We look down and its just one woman harmonizing with herself. The acoustics in the place are that good. It was really, really cool. If you can get there it’s a necessity that you hear somebody sing with themselves there.

Once we’d had enough of the beautiful Tower area, we headed back to the airport to wait for Christine. I actually grabbed a good forty-five minute nap that was very refreshing. Annelise spent the whole time trying to get a hold of her bank. She ended up having the call the manager’s home number (Small towns…) to finally find someone. Her ATM card wasn’t working, and she had no access to money!

Finally Christine arrived and we hopped on a train to Firenze (Italian for Florence). I had a hell of a time finding my hostel, but once I got here I’m glad I’m here. It is very clean and I have the room to myself at the moment. I was worried because it had zero reviews on the site I booked it on. It is brand new though so I took a leap of faith! I’m a twenty minute walk away from the ladies, but oh well.
