This week’s issue of The Economist includes an article discussing the Illinois economy, including a brief mention of Deere. Overall, a fairly depressing article, although they say nothing bad about us.
The picture of the president speaking in front of (ahem) some construction equipment makes me think we need to figure out how to get Obama to come speak at a Deere plant. I remember seeing Bush speak at the Harvester Works in January 2002. It was a pretty neat experience for me (and, I’m sure, the other Deere employees lucky enough to be present), especially as I was an intern in my first year of college at the time.
President Obama recently hit his head on Marine One, the presidential helicopter. He looks like me coming out of an elevator in the New Delhi Radisson, except he didn’t smack his head nearly as hard as I did.
Some are having a bit of fun with the “news,” but personally I find it humanizing. The President is just another American… and I have a driver, too, and have lived out of the country. He and I aren’t that different. :-| (Now he just needs to blog about being upset about something I left out of my book, and we’ll be even.)
Sensing that watching the same episodes of 30 Rock over and over after I get home from work is perhaps not the best use of my time, I asked Avdhut to take me to a Crossword (an Indian chain of bookstores) in Krome Mall. (Astute readers will note that this is a different location of the same chain from which I collected Nathan upon his return from Mumbai.) I wanted to get a copy of The Economist to read while out to dinner, and thought I could find some other books to read when I’m not otherwise being productive.
On the way back, I took some photos, and added them to the gallery. Here are some highlights.
