Tom, Kelly, and I spent the later half of the afternoon today golfing at Bunker Links in Galesburg. We had a great time, and with the exception of a couple of poor holes, I played fairly well. #6 was particularly memorable, though, because when Kelly reached the tee, a bird started diving at her. Tom tried to protect her so she could tee off, but she decided to invoke USGA Decision 1-4/10, which describes what to do in case of dangerous animals (Specifically, but not obviously limited to, rattlesnakes or bees.) interfering with play.
The weekend after the Fourth of July is always one of my favorites of the summer, because that’s the weekend of the John Deere Classic. I’ve been inviting some of my friends and family into town for the past few years and we always have a good time. Despite a rainy Friday, this year was no different.
After catching my flight from Frankfurt to Edinburgh, and claiming my checked bag (which I initially thought had been lost, but then was found…), I met Tom at the Edinburgh airport and we headed into the city to check into the Grosvenor Hilton, after which we caught a train to head towards St. Andrews—the home of golf.
Thanks to everyone who came into town for the John Deere Classic last weekend. I had a great time hanging out with everyone, and really enjoyed introducing some of my Quad Cities friends to my fraternity brothers.
