Cultural Exchange, Music, and Baseball

Last weekend was certainly an eventful one. Vivek, one of my colleagues in Pune, and his wife Shilpi visited the Holt Farm Saturday afternoon, where they toured our equipment and facilities, and met some of my family. Saturday night, Josh and I ventured to scenic Riverside, Iowa, to see Styx. Sunday, Matt and I were up early to catch a bus trip to Wrigley, where we watched the Cubs take on the New York Mets.

Illini Win, Cubs Lose

Well, it was a mixed day for fans of both the Illini and the Cubs. The Illini won in spectacular fashion, defeating Michigan 45-20 at Michigan Stadium. Juice Williams set a Big House record for most total yards with 431, and the Illini broke the school record for points scored against Michigan in a single game. Tom, Kelby, and a number of other AKLs traveled to Ann Arbor for the game, and they got to see a great one. Our offense was dominant (ex: see aforementioned record-setting total yardage by Juice) and the defense was also impressive. At one point, Brit Miller forced two straight sacks, and the defense recovered two Michigan fumbles. Good stuff: Muck Fichigan!

Cubs / Mets in New York City

Matt Travi, Collin Looby, and I have been in Boston since September 24 for some vacation, the 2008 jQuery Camp, and The Ajax Experience 2008. (I'll be posting about the jQuery Camp and Ajax Experience later.) We traveled to Boston via New York on September 23, where we took in a Cubs / Mets game.

Matt Travi, Collin Looby, and I traveled via New York to Boston for The Ajax Experience 2008. While in New York, we saw the Cubs take on the Mets at Shea. Thanks to Devon Sharma for letting us crash at his place while in New York. Unfortunately, the Cubs lost this game, but we had a great time talking trash back and forth with the various Mets fans.
